Notes 10/22/09

We decide to go back to the keep for Ghyselbrecht to recover since he’s still wounded. HaQaRa says he wants to stay in the wilderness and he’ll meet up with us later.

We go back along the road and skirt the river and woods. Hear voices in the forest. Arrive at a long spiral Northern Road that leads back to the keep. Greeted by the two guards, grunt and lower the bridge. Get to Sabine, says it sounds like Kobolds. Tells us to check in with Abercrombie. Opens door.

We decide to take Ghyselbrecht to the Chapel. 60ft long, 60ft tall. Fairly opulent. Impressive alter, religious scenes. Staircase on side that leads down, man walks towards us. 6’3, red robe, blue vestements with symbols. Asks if he’s OK, brings us downstairs. Lays Ghyselbrecht down in his bed. Magdeleine stays with him at the chapel.

We walk into the Inn. Enomously overweight human walks up to us. Grossly overweight, extremely attractive women hanging on his arms. Puts out a hand, “The Heros have returned!” Puts out a hand, introduces himself as Mendel. Invites us to a table, buys a round of Ale. Caravan trader, just came in. Flatters us…bla bla bla. Jess (serving girl) rolls her eyes. Guy buys us a room for the week. Man and woman come over, both 6’1 or so. Bodyguards.

Ghyselbrecht talks to Abercrombie about Yrubdarb and how he was supposed to be a priest of him. Clear he was praying to someone else too.

Ingatus inquires about sages/lore. They suggest talking to the new baker. Southern side, modest dwellings. We find the baker. He’s got short cropped brown hair, young, excited to see us. Wearing a necklace with symbol (holy). Welcomes us in. A young girl rolling dough behind him. Introduces us to his apprentice, Jen… 17 years old. He’s maybe early 30s. He introduces himself as Brother Martin. Ghyselbrecht introduces himself as a staunch follower of Einlein. Recently relocated to the keep. Been here about two years. He’s been around. Tells us to be careful of Kobold traps. Ask him about the egg, show it to him.

Eyes light up, takes a step back. Asks where it came from and says it’s more mysterious and dangerous than we thought. Then says, this is the egg of a dragon. Looking at a small fortune. Brother Martin offers to join our party.

Confrontation with Aseneth. Josephine basically says she can sense the friends of her god and Aseneth is not a friend of my god. Aseneth spits at Josephine’s feet and stomps off and says we’ll regret it. We go back to Null Pa-trice to give her the egg to watch. We stop at Inn, Jess gives Brother Martin an uncomfortable hug. She tells him to be careful. Aseneth in the corner glaring at us, especially Josephine.

Go to quartermaster (Jed) supply, waiting for us is two weeks of rations and some water. Mendel paid for everything. Get another 10 foot pole and head back to caves. We skirt between forest and river. Hear humanoid voices, in halfling, muttering. ...there’s a lot of them. “Need t get back, full report.”

Ghyselbrecht and Magdeleine hide in bushes. Josephine calls out in halfling, “Lo, who goes there?” Hear a lot of rustling in bushes, then nothing. Thieves move in the direction of the rustling, quietly. Don’t find anything, they go in different directions off to the side, then head back. Magdeleine sees for a second, a halfling looking back behind. They catch each other’s eye, then halfling is gone, running to the east.

We take our weapons out and head forward more cautiously. Head down road, see woman lying in road in pool of her own blood, two arrows sticking out of her. Ignatus says it’s a trap! Her head tilts up and she says, “Help me, there were bandits.” Draw weapons and approach slowly. Gmone moves into the grass. Group of humans raise up, scruffy looking highwaymen. Swords pointing at Magdeleine. They say, “We’ve heard about you. You’re the hero’s of the keep! Look, we have no interest in harming you, but you do need to pay the toll.” Ask about an egg… says to give our valuables. Ignatus looks about to charge at arrow dudes and motions to Ghyselbrecht.

Ghyselbrecht casts sleep at the archer guys and they fall asleep. Magdeleine stabs the guy directly in front of her and misses. One guy turns towards Magdaleine and one hits, she takes a sword slash. Brother Martin moves over to other guy. Josephine swipes at the woman in the road and misses. Ignatus attacks one of sword guys and misses.

Magdaleine tries to stab guy in front of her again and hits. Ignatus tries for the sword guy again, hitting his neck and he falls down. Josephine misses the woman again. Magdaleine gets hit again, the other misses Brother Martin. Ghyselbrecht moves to the Magdaleine/Martin group. Third screams “Maruta!” and swings at woman, digging deep in midsection, then slides off her blade in a heap.

Magdaleine stabs the guy again and takes a chunk of his face off. Ignatus runs over to other group. Ghyselbrecht misses, Josephine moves to the other side of guy attacking Magdaleine. The highwaymen start to run away. Magdaleine takes one down with her sling and stone. One is running off, “Please! Let us alone! Sorry!”

The thief starts to tie up a thief and Ignatus moves to kill the other guy. Magdaleine follows highwaymen and heading towards swamp. He dives into swamp, bubbles rise up around him and water turns red. We turn around and head back. Josephine is indignant.

Other guy wakes up… Ask him how he knew about the egg. He says, “You think this is the extent of us?...Er..I mean, we’re all dead.” They all have shortswords and shortbows. Guy won’t tell us who he heard the rumors from. He heard it in the keep, but won’t tell us who he heard it from. Brother Martin notices a tattoo on the left of the guy’s neck. Martin starts laughing, this is Jental, he used to live in the keep. Evidently, Jenn did spill the info about the egg. The woman in the middle of the road used to be in the military garrison. Brother Martin breaks the guys fingers with his mace and suggests we let him go. We do and move on to the valley of the caves.

We decide to go into another cave…the closest one on the west. This cave is a little larger than the kobold cave. Rough cave gives way to worked stone, divides in three. Straight -> 30ft, door, one angles to left, one goes 20ft to right and ends in a T. Muddy floor shows bare humanlike feet tracks. Head towards the left, Magdaleine checks for traps. Goes 30ft SE, branches E 20ft, continues S 20ft into a larger room directly to the east. Magdaleine sees a chest at the end of the corridor. We head towards the room… We can see movement in the room beyond. We stop about 20ft away. Magdaleine moves up silently to scout and peeks in. She sees several (6) green skinned humanoids in crude armor and clothing. 4-5ft tall, playing tug-of-war. One insults other in goblin. She glances around the room (20ft x 30ft) can’t see far end, but a chalk line has been drawn down and they are playing tug of war across it. There’s a barrel with some crude mugs, another barrel that has broom handles sticking out. Five playing tug o war, 6th leaning against wall, drinking from mug. She comes back and informs us.

Brother Martin quickly casts Bless before we run in. We run up, Magdaleine losses her sling at one. Ghyselbrecht hits a goblin in the end through the eye and topples him. Magdaleine hits the same one again. One attacking third misses, one attacking Brother Martin misses, one on Josephine misses. One on Ignatus misses. One drinking grabs a spear and moves towards Ignatus. Third misses. Ignatus moves to strike, misses badly. Ghyselbrecht shoots at running guy, misses and draws his sword. Brother Martin smacks one with his quarterstaff and makes one stumble back. Josephine lops off one’s left hand.

Ghyselbrecht squeezes into melee range. One on third misses, one on Martin misses, one one Josephine smacks her with a slash. Two on Ignatus barely miss. Josephine whiffs. Martin misses, Third misses. Ignatus trips and misses.

Ghyselbrecht makes with stabbing and gets a scratch. Josephine misses. One on Brother Martin hits. One on Josephine misses, one on Ignatus hits and with a slash. Magdaleine misses. Ignatus hits and takes on down. Third misses.

Magdaleine stabs guy in front of her, “Your mother was pink!” and misses. Josephine misses. Ghyselbrecht misses. Bro. Martin misses. One on third misses, one on Martin hits, he’s still barely standing. One on Ignatus misses, Ignatus misses. Ghyselbrecht misses.

Magdaleine finally stabs him with the dagger and he falls, “Your sister sleeps with Kobolds!” Josephine misses. Ghyselbrecht hits and knocks him down, hacking into his midsection. One goes to run away. Third hits and does a wound. Br. Martin misses, Josephine misses. Ghyselbrecht hits one running, Ignatus misses. They run up the stairs to the south. Ghyselbrecht chases, Ignatus chases, Josephine chases, Magdaleine chases. Third chases screaming Maruda, Br. Martin stays in the back, but follows.

We run up the stairs at top speed. Ghyselbrecht trips and Ignatus jumps over a wire. Ignatus sees them at the end of a landing, more stairs and a door. They’re headed for the door and start banging on it. Third and Ignatus charge to attack. Monsters bang, Ignatus misses, Third misses. Door shakes, but it’s not opening. A voice yells “Forget it!”

Goblins back up to door, quivering. Magdaleine asks, “Who’s back there?” They say, “An army!” “With one voice?” “Any army of voices!” “You’ll die!”

Third kills one. Ignatus kills the other. They loot the bodies, Ghyselbrecht cuts the trip wire. We go back. They have crude short swords. 5 copper. Move back, find 13 more copper. Magdaleine takes the 20ft rope. One barrel has spears, one is 2/3 full of groggy ale.

We head back to the room with the chest. It seems uncannily dark. Has heavy lock etc. Ghyselbrecht realizes the chest it trapped. There’s a lever and wire. Ghselbrecth and Magdaleine both try to disable the trap. Magdaleine easily cuts the wire which leads to the entrance to the cave. Ghyselbrecht lets Magdaleine open the chest. Inside is a folded piece of paper. Magdaleine picks it up and tries to read it. It says “Briarch”, which means, “Ha ha, screw you, idiot.”

We head back towards cave entrance and go towards door. There seems to be a religious goblin glyph on the door. Magdeleine looks for traps, she doesn’t notice any. Ghyselbrecht checks and doesn’t find anything, Magdaleine listens and doesn’t hear anything. Ignatus tries to open the door, hear a bunch of gears, 20ft behind us a portculus slams shut, locking us in. Door opens to a stone wall.

People try to open the bars. Ghyselbrecht tries to lift by himself. We hear voices, Magdaleine knows they are goblin. Magdaleine investigates the trap to see if she can undo it. She figures out there is a small chance to pull the weight to the other side. They flip the weight enough to raise it 3 feet up. Josephine and Ignatus slip through.

Eight goblins come running up, they all have spears. Third holds up door, Magdaleine and Br. Martin go through. Martin holds door and Third and Ghyselbrecht come through next time. Josephine and Ignatus close and miss. Everyone gets through and portcullis slams shut. Ignatus hits for a scratch. Br. Martin moves up. Josephine misses. Third moves in. Br. Martin gets hit. Bunch of misses, one hits Josephine, on scratches Ignatus. Magdaleine misses.

Ghyselbrecht moves up and hits one. Magdaleine misses. Third screams and hits one for a scratch. Br. Martin misses. Ignatus misses. Josephine beheads one in a single blow.

Magdaleine swishes. Br. Martin clocks one in the gut. Ghyselbrecht misses. Third takes one out in the midsection. Josephine hits one that Ghyselbrecht hit, very injured. Ignatus takes one out. Two goblins who weren’t in melee turn around and run off. Br. Martin gets hit again, but still standing. Other two miss.

Magdaleine stabs the injured one and takes him down. Ignatus and Josephine take down the ones who are running away. Search the bodies and we run out to head back towards the keep. 16 copper pieces and a bunch of spears.

Afi gets extra XP. Everyone else will get XP next time.

Notes 10/08/09

Josephine had a vision in the night that she was a small child walking towards a gaping cave mouth, a lion appeared and looked concerned about where I was going, looked like trying to push away. As kept going, got more aggitated and upset, trying to protect…eventually walked into the lion, became older and was then herself. Walked 2 steps into cave, fell down a flight of stairs and woke up.

Null Patrice had a vision also. Dream in a place she felt very comfortable. Surrounded by members of family she felt loved by and comfortable with…it was a holiday with a feast. They served her food…as soon as she ate it, it turned to poison and she retched. They comforted her and they brought her water…. tasted like vinegar. Looked around, everyone still trying to comfort, stood up and began to walk away towards her room. Opened a book, her hands were on fire, went down to touch pet, chomped at her hand. She stood up, stuff faded…felt protected at end… feeling from Einlein that he would be there, but was concerned where headed. Woke up.

We all wake up. Jess is sweeping out in front. We talk about our dreams… Ghyslbrecht asks for a flower seller. Jess says to go to the quartermaster supply.

Jess and Null get in discussion. Talks about Abercrombie and Martin. Brother Martin left a piece of advice…he’s been doing tracking and wanted to tip us off that he read in some books that adventurers would sometimes come back from the lower caves, but rarely came back from the upper caves. Best tracker in village is Cobb, Martin has done some tracking expeditions, but has not never found the caves himself. Martin has been gone a week. He’s fascinated by history of keep and area. He prays to the great God Cislew.

At QM supply, large man with big black beard. Welcomes us to Keep, asks if we’re really going to caves. He’s looking for a Rose or a pinch of fine sand. We say we are… he says it’s been a while since people went there. It’s been quiet until recently. Caravans disappear, seen tracks of lizard men. Aseneth buys a bunch of components, Third checks out some weapons. Has some random weapons, dwarf sized plate mail.

Josephine and Null borrows a gold from Ignatus and buys rations that will last us a week. Ghyselbrecht buys a waterskin and fills with wine. Water for party.

Sabina walks up to Josephine and ask if we know where we’re going, any questions to ask. Says to talk to Cobb and Martin. She says Martin went to the East. Ghyselbrecht is upset about the cost of water.

We head out.

We’re staring at a southern path, and go about 500 yards, reach a T intersection. If we went West, we’d be going the way we came. We follow the road east. Travel for an hour…see some cart & foot tracks. See some sort of scuffle and veered off tracks. Go past that…2 hours. Road suddenly stops. Large river intersects the road. Dense forest to left. River is about 200 yards wide, see path continuing. There is room to skirt forest and river and get to other side.

We try to decide where to go… Ghyselbrecht notices a small path to the north through the forest. We follow trail. Walk into woods…take 30 steps in. Hear a harsh horrible, shrieking sound. Realize that Josephine & Third are batting at something, a black shape. josephine take a wing to the face, something seaking in my armor. Creature knocked down Third, proboscus attached to her.

Ghyselbrecht stabs the creature on Josephine with his short sword, wacks off a wing. Ignatus smacks the creature with his sword and kills it. Aseneth backed up and Third swung and missed. Third screams and some blood leaks out. She swings and lodges her sword in the ground. Null tries to smack it, but misses both the creature and Third. Aseneth gets yelled at by Ghyselbrecht, pulls out her dagger and tries to get in, but can’t seem to.

Third is really really hurt, swings at it and does a minor punch. Null finally smacks it with her morning star. Looks like a large proboscis. Null heals Third. Ghyselbrecht nudges Josephine and she stares at Aseneth and figures that all is not right with her.

Aseneth apologizes to Ghyselbrecht and says she isn’t much of a fighter and didn’t want to hit anyone with her spells. Null asks what kind of magic she has… Aseneth says she can be very handy.

Josephine asks if Third feels OK to go on, she nods… we walk on…get through forest. The small path rejoins the first major path. It’s now about noon. We follow the major path another hour or so, forest to north thins out and recedes. To South, see a series of rising steppes (hills), continue to east, path makes turn to North. Directly to East, small river follows path to North. We continue to follow the road North. It’s about 3 o clock. Brook continues to follow the path, large dirt path veers off directly west. Large path, rocks & pebbles, not as a well travelled, but big. We follow the dirty path West. Walk through a clearing, forest to South West. Suddenly path ends in a small patch clear of any vegetation. See a stone lintel set in the side of low rise. It’s either a cliff side or an ancient burial mound. Closed rock door in the middle of a hillside. No writing.

Josephine pushes on door, it’s stone, heavy, and cold. Ghyselbrecht inspects the door for traps. We check out the door thoroughly. Nothing secret. Josephine tries to open it, fails. Then Null and Ignatus put their shoulders into it and tumble through the door. Looking into a dark chamber…dark. Can see the glint of what looks like an army of standing skeletons inside the door. They scramble out, Ghyselbrecht nudges Josephine. She feels revulsion. We back up.

One of the skeletons moves, takes one hand and closes the door. Null and Josephine kind of recognize that burial mound is higher than anything around us. Third is hyperventilating and staring at door. We scramble up top of mound to look around. South see path, forest, maybe spire. To north east, see brook go across path, under bridge. To north we see a giant valley which looks not entirely natural. Natural valley, but maybe parts carved out. We’d have to walk through light forest. Head that way. We walk through woods with relatively no problem.

Walk through other edge and are standing on the edge looking down. See a figure down under the trees. He's been camped down there watching the caves. Realized he can't handle the caves on his own. He's seen smaller and larger than humans. Seems like the smaller creatures tend to dwell in the lower caves.

Party uses rope and stuff to get down cliff. We notice a fire behind some trees. We continue that direction.

Meet up with HaQaRa. He’s seen little grey beings coming in and out of caves. Nothing out of other cave, one with river going in smells horrible. Maybe toilet of area. River itself seems OK…nothing horrible coming out of there. Larger shapes on upper level.

We decide to go into the one with the little grey guys who come out. Cave is completely dark. 5.5 ft high, 3.5 wide. Only wide enough for one to go in…widens and can walk two abreast, seated little grey creature in a little alcove. Null hails it in Kobold. “Well met stranger, we come in peace.” The kobold doesn’t move or say anything. Ghyselbrecht takes a couple steps forward to take a closer look. He suddenly vanishes…like he walked into a shadow and is gone. Ignatus says, “Ghiselbrecht.” He falls into a giant pit and crunches around in bones, he shoulds, “I fell into a pit!” Pulls his sword out and moves to climb out. Kobold still does not move. He starts trying to climb up and slips, we throw down a rope and he climbs up.

Josephine jumps over to inspect kobold. Null and HaQaRa jump over too. Notice cobwebs attached to it. HaQaRa pokes it with his swords, it falls down like a desicated, mummified corpse. Spear falls down trap. Null starts to search it…large maggots leap onto her, one gets under armor and sinks into her flesh. Josephine burns the maggot out of her, the others freak out with the fire and burrow into the ground.

To the left looks a little shadowy and grey. The other direction goes about 20 feet disappears into darkness. Josephine gives the torch back to Null. Go 30ft into grey area (west)... Get into a room covered in spiderwebs. Ignatus and Null suggest torching the webs. Ignatus starts burning them. Josephine moves up to front. Ignatus puts a torch to spider web, instantly as if almost all on fire. Peels of dark smoke start filling up the area. Third collapses and starts hacking. Josephine grabs her and pulls her out. Everyone escapes out of the cave. Smoke starts billowing out. Watch entrance to cave to see if anything comes out. We decide to set up camp and rest. Set up watches, night passes uneventfully. Ranger heals Third before we go to sleep.

HaQaRa seems to think it’s more quiet than normal. We look into the burned room. See a big mess of charred webs. They charred more than burned. Very strong webs. Doused in something to make them smoke like that. Charred web breaks. Null takes dust and throws it on the web. Dust falls out. Ignatus easily cuts through web. Josephine starts chopping too. Room is 30 ft wide x 15… Nothing else really in this room. Oily residue on floor. Ghyselbrecht searches for secret doors and doesn’t find anything. The ranger checks out the oil…it’s black burny oil.

We turn around and check the other way. We travel 10 ft to the east. Passage tilts to SE, goes another 30ft. Begins to slowly slope upward. A little more difficult to travel…heading up to next level, heading to east and level. Another passage to north, 10ft….Another goes up another level to East. We look down passageway. Peer to North, something is making a sound to the east and is getting louder coming towards us.

HaQaRa and Ghyselbrecht hide in North corridor, rest of party moves back. HaQaRa and Ghyselbrecht get tripped. Giant spherical thing rolling towards us. As big as the passageway. We run in front of boulder back… run around pit…boulder falls behind us into the pit/hole. Sounds like sticks breaking…then hear a buzzing sound. Run back towards party.

See an angry hive fly out of the pit…. Regular wasps…they head out of the cave. Trip wire to north. 30ft to North goes East/West. Josephine suggests cutting it, Ghyselbrecht disables it and gets a 10ft piece of wire. We head north, Ignatus poles in front of us. Dark, dank, ugly cave. Walls are slightly hewn…get to east/west. To west, there’s a door after 10ft. To the east, it disappears into darkness.

Nothing special about door…wooden, has a door knocker. Ghyselbrecht checks for traps on area and on door. Doesn’t find traps, but door is locked. He listens at the door, tries to unlock it. Tries again…probably beyond his ability. Null, Third and Ignatus, try to batter it down. They bust it down. The room beyond is filled with treasure. Thousands and thousands of coins, gemstones. Large egg resting like scooped out of nest. Aseneth wants to take a look at the egg and moves to step forward. 30×30. Ghyselbrecht looks for traps in front area. He doesn’t touch anything or find anything. He then throws a stone it… Ignatus starts poking treasure, coins fall down. Aseneth walks forward and looks at the egg with a greedy glint. Takes her hand out, grabs it and lifts it up, takes a few steps back. Shows the egg to everyone. She says we can have the treasure, but she’d like to hang onto the egg. Tough leathery shell, warm to touch. Don’t hear anything inside. Heavy. HaQaRa asks what she thinks it is. She says, “This room is full of treasure, all I’m asking for this egg.” Null and Aseneth get in argument, but all she wants in magic stuff, not treasure.

Josephine picks up a gold coin… “No…it seems too light.” Josephine scrapes the old, underneath is copper. Start inspecting gems…quartz, not diamond… glass. Room filled with fake treasure. (200 copper= 1 gold… about 6000 pieces). Argument to investigate the egg. Null investigates the egg. Egg belongs to everyone until we figure out what it is. Decide that HaQaRa will hold it until later. Josephine takes 20 pieces of copper for Cislew.

We go directly east out of the room. 10 ft, 20ft, 30ft, 40ft…50ft, 60ft…. See a room in front 20×20 room. Vivid contrast from bare walls. Cave paintings depicting small creatures, bowing to large creature “Kurtulmak” who is 10x their height. Holds human in paw ready to eat a human. Antichamber to room where large creature lives. Huge double doors beyond. Search for secret doors. Don’t find any secret doors, but doors in front seem very significant. We listen at the door. Don’t hear anything. Ghyselbrecht thinks they are easy to open. We decide to check out the door.

Ghyselbrecht goes to open the door, swing open easily, behind is a room full of little grey creatures. Dozens of little creatures standing shoulder to shoulder. Give a blood curdling yell, getting ready to throw javelins. Ghyselbrecht gets ready to cast sleep. Volley of javelins comes flying out. Most of them haywire…a few do get through. Ghyselbrecht has two spears hanging out of him. Josephine jumps in front of ghyselbrecht, Null casts Bless. Ignatus and HaQaRa hide behind shield. Aseneth casts a white hand in front of ghyselbrecht and Josephine which closes the door, she throws down a used scroll.

Doors open towards monsters. Slide the pole between door handles to keep door closed. Null goes to heal Ghyselbrecht, he’s unconcious, but stabilized. No one tries to open the door or rattle it. We leave the pole in the door and then head back down the corridor.

We walk down to where the camp was and notice it has been disturbed. There’s a small piece of parchment there. Note basically says don’t camp here again or you will die. It’s 3pm-ish. We trek a bit away towards road and set up camp. HaQaRa cures him to 4. He’s at 1. Josephine lays hands on him, he’s at 3. We sleep, he’ll get a HP.

Josephine, the human Paladin of Cislew Ghyselbrecht the Rogue/Magic User Elf Magdaleine the Fighter/Thief Gnome Null Pa-trice the human Cleric of Einlein Ignatus human fighter (bard)

Arrive in keep, questioned as to purpose, cross draw bridge.

Woman scrutinizes us… Sabina, the gatekeeper. No stabbing, brawling, stay out of trouble. Ghyselbrecht asks about the bar. She says stay or eat at the Green Man Inn, ask old Wilf why it’s called that. One-Eyed Cat is the tavern. They have a wharehouse and a stables. They aren’t too keen on Einlein, they have a priest named Abercrombie who worships Yrubdarb. They ask about adventure. She says there are a series of caves to the Northwest called the Caves of Chaos. First adventuring party in a while. Have had some strange visitors lately…you should meet “Third”. Talk to Cobb if looking for adventure, but we like it quiet.

Door slides open. We walk past stables, warehouse, houses, stores, Tavern and Inn. We go into the Tavern. It’s one story, 5 feet of stone, then wood with thatched roof. Five or six tables. It’s late afternoon, overcast and grey. Bartender with greyish white beard and a slight blonde serving girl. One table with an older man, been drinking a bit by himself, mumbling by himself. Another table has a young man and a young woman conversing, seem familiar and laughing. Third table has a woman with long black hair, slight build, dark alert eyes, amber cloak draped over chair…looks like she comes from somewhere else, doesn’t look like a farmer. She’s drinking a bottle of wine by herself. Other table has a woman who stiffens and moves when we come in. She’s 6ft tall, wearing leather armor, some metal, curly hair and metal mask over her face. Moves towards the door almost looks like a guard.

Girl seats us, mask woman is watching us the whole way. Blond girl sits down, ask her about mask woman. She says, “That is Third, she’s been here just under a week. Staying here. Noone knows where she came from, why she’s here. She just shows three fingers all the time. Second night she was here, Neep and one of the Jarl boys got in a nasty fight, and she got between them and calmed down the situation. Wilf has let her stay at the inn. Caves aren’t what they used to be. When Lord Mason was here, we had adventurers every week. No one’s gone up there in two or three years. She says, “But I’ll tell you, I’ve seen something….I call it the ‘shy tower’. Sometimes I see it, sometimes I don’t see it….it’s on a hill over the keep. Guy she dated went up there and didn’t come back. Amber cloak girl came yesterday…queer sort. We get a round of mead. The old guy is named Potemkin…been here forever. Might have started up the keep with Lord Mason. Sweet old man and always pays for his mead.

Talk to Third, she seems interested in joining our party to fight. Ignatus goes to talk to old guy. Remembers when laid first brick at the keep. Remember when Lord Mason went away to rescue Cameron Casteau. He says he’s looking for his father, his name was Bigus. Putnik says to speak to Devereau. He says he’s been drinking too much. If you’re looking for a wizard, you should talk to the schoolmaster.

Null goes to talk to the Amber cloaked woman. She asks if we’re adventurers and says people haven’t been coming in years. She says she’s on a bit of a quest herself, apprenticed to a great wizard. They’re sick of the way magic has infused this land. They are committed to executing every evil creature in this land. She’s here because these people need them to clean up the sickness the pervades the area. She will go to the caves soon, but can’t go by herself. She says she doesn’t know how to get there herself, but she knows someone who knows the way. Null invites her to join the group. She stands up and introduces herself as Aseneth. Third slumps by the door. Null invites Third over. She cocks her head at Aseneth a little. Aseneth says she has a map that she found on a dead body that shows where the caves are. She says she heard there are spiders in the wood…giant spiders. Caves to Northwest.

Talk about getting a room. We can stay on a pallet for a silver piece, 2 silver for a dry pallet & blanket, gold a piece for the inn. Bartender, Wilf, comes over. “Welcome to Kendall Keep, it’s good to have adventurers under our roof… Remember that the caves of chaos are not to be travelled lightly.”

Character Creation Night
Thursday, October 1, 2009

We will be meeting at our place on Telegraph Hill, 10/1/09, from 6:30-11:30, to roll up characters to begin the adventure, and also get an introduction to the world, campaign, and come up with a regular schedule. Feel free to get some background on how we’ll be creating characters from the Character Creation Page.

Wine and snacks to be served. Diet Mt. Dew, of course. Please bring any/all AD&D books you might have.

Welcome to your Adventure Log!
A blog for your campaign

Every campaign gets an Adventure Log, a blog for your adventures!

While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.
